This is a basic guide for suggested topics in Hawaiian culture and history.

ʻŌlelo Hoʻākāka - Introduction

c)ʻAimalama2015 – Ka Leo o Ka UluauMoon phases play an essential role in everyday life, especially in Hawaiʻi. The position of the moon influenced many factors of life. Kaulana mahina assisted Hawaiians in making decisions by allowing them to know what was prosperous during certain moons or what was not during another moon. This helped them decide what their task would be for the day. There were also moons that affected the actual thinking of Hawaiians, such as Huna. During this time, it was not good to seek knowledge as answers were to remain hidden, just as the name of the moon suggests. This libguide provides resources about the effects and influences of Kaulana Mahina (position of the moon) on planting, fishing, and human behaviors.
